Glen Brand Iowa Hall of Fame

Located in the Dan Gable International Wrestling Institute and Museum, the Glen Brand Wrestling Hall of Fame of Iowa is dedicated to honoring the great individuals who achieved the highest level of success in the sport of wrestling, whether they were native born Iowans or attended Iowa schools.

“Iowa has the greatest heritage and tradition of wrestling of any state in the nation and we are proud that the International Wrestling Institute and Museum can play a key role in keeping that history alive” said Mike Chapman, executive director of the Museum.

The Glen Brand wrestling Hall of Fame of Iowa was created in 2002 to recognize the accomplishments of those wrestlers and wrestling contributors from the state of Iowa or individuals who attended school in Iowa. The inaugural class acknowledged all Olympic and/or world champions and every four-time state champion from the Iowa high school state tournament.

The class of 2003 honored those individuals who have won three NCAA Division I titles and the coaches of NCAA Division I team champions at Iowa universities. Subsequent classes are based on the credentials of an individual wrestler or wrestling supporter.

:: Glen Brand ::

The Hall of Fame itself is named after Glen Brand, one of the most honored athletes in Iowa history. He was a standout athlete at Clarion High School and gained national attention at Iowa State University in the late 1940s. He was a three-time All-American for the Cyclones with an overall record of 54-3, earning a reputation as a fierce competitor and pinner.

In 1948 he was NCAA champion at 174 pounds. The crowning moment of his career came later in 1948 when he won a gold medal at 174 pounds in the Olympics Games in London.

Graduating from Iowa State with a degree in engineering, Brand has owned and operated Brand Hydraulics in Omaha for many years. He has won numerous honors and awards for his wrestling achievements, and for his support of wrestling through the years.

The Glen Brand Wrestling Hall of Fame of Iowa is a tribute to one of the state's most respected athletes, a true gentleman and a credit to the sport.
