From 1993 through 1995 Terry Brands was the best 125.5 wrestler in the world. In 1993 Terry won the World Championships in his first attempt. He and his identical twin brother, Tom, became the first brother combination from the United States to win a World title in the same year.

In 1994 Brands made his second World team but failed to place. At the 1995 World Championships in Atlanta, Brands won his second World title with a thrilling come-from-behind victory in the finals.

After missing out on 1996 Olympic team, Brands made a comeback in 2000 and earned a bronze medal at the Sydney Olympics.

At the University of Iowa Terry was a two-time NCAA champion and a three-time All-American. He finished his college career with a record of 137-7.
